The Human Race
The Human Race looks into the minds and souls of simple, ordinary folk and explores the question “what are we all here for”? Owen takes a rare and fresh view of life and its consequences. Set in Anytown in Somewhereshire you may even see yourself in this black comedy.
This play was written as a Prequel to Human Rocket and explores the life of the same group of ordinary folk and their characteristic lives. We see here how each character became the person we met in The Human Rocket. These two plays are part of a planned trilogy of which Owen is currently writing the final part.
Salesman by Day
Hailed “An electrifying spectacle” by the Shropshire Star, this play is contentious, powerful and strictly for adult viewing.
Salesman by Day was born through the writer’s work with Colchester Rape Crisis team. A charismatic but wayward salesman meets a vivacious young woman in a bar. As the night unfolds the couple learn more about each other than either of them would wish.
The Human Rocket
Influenced by Brechtian Theatre, Human Rocket shows scenes within scenes, dramatic signs and emotions to drive home its message. In true Brechtian style the play doesn’t offer any answers. Instead it poses questions and displays characteristic traits that we can see in all of us.
Brecht also created the alienation technique which is a way that the performers achieve such a level of immersion that we thoroughly believe in what they are doing, then their own true identity and their acting ability is no longer part of the equation. The text, the words and the emotions are the essence of this style of writing.
